Creatures

In this section, dear traveler, you can get to know the creatures that are part of Firmamundo’s mythology. Some of these characters were created by magic, and others through evolution as the years went by. Some developed a good relationship with the habitants of Dawn and Dusk, whether others were voracious and dangerous.

Age of Fury

The Three Beasts

Whazarns
Whazarns

In the beginning of times, Firmamundo was divided between two completely opposing continents (Fire and Ice), and then, the first beings were born, they were the beasts of fire. Such creatures forged in flames and magma were furious, and just like a wildfire, claimed the rocks and the lands of the world for themselves. Little do we know about these beings, most of the discoveries were made by analyzing petrified skeletons found all over the coast of the continent that is now known as Dawn and at the Salt Archipelagos. These fossils had different shapes: some humanoids as tall as trees, some quadrupeds resembling feline predators. According to the first Confidants of Nature, these creatures could toss its claws and flaming blazes out, also balls of fires and steaming magma. This magic fire’s intensity created and left this raw material called Glass of Whazarn, with crucial magical powers all over the Dawn Land. These tales and reports echoed for centuries, feeding not only the fantasy, but also instilling fear in the imagination of people.

Liperins
Liperins

The opposing side of Whazarns at FirmaMundo. The infamous Beasts of Fire, born to conquer. Unlike the monsters of fire, whose only remains found were skeletons, Liperins were discovered with their bodies dead, but still intact, at the Ice’s Crest. These creatures were shaped like humanoids, had frosty armor with frozen spikes covering their whole bodies. Just like the beasts of fire, some ice pioneers also had animal shapes, with icy glades sprouting from their bodies.
According to tales from Charco’s monks, even though they were lifeless, they still had a highly freezing and lethal fluid, which they believed to be released as self defense as well as attack, and also as fuel for gelid bursts. This was a very rare component used in remote times by scholars, herbalists and monks.

Haza Harins
Haza Harins

The third species of the ancient beasts, and maybe, the most terrifying one, with a mysterious origin. According to the Confidants of Nature, these beasts of ashes emerged from the battles between the creatures of fire and ice. The clash of these two forces transformed the battlefield into a sea of iodine and ashes, full of hatred and grudge. From this rotten mixture, the Sons of Ashes were born. Some of them were more attuned to fire, so they could spit boiling iodine, they were hard as rocks, burly, deformed, and big as houses and trees. Others had more affinity to ice, with glassy blades that they could launch from their arms, legs and backs. But, what caught scholar’s attention the most was these creature’s strength. They were stronger than their ancestors. Due to their brutality, they were responsible for the extinction of the races that came before them. They ruled Firmamundo by the end of the Fury Age, until they were defeated by the Giants and later by the Three Warriors. Some people believe that their whereabouts is a mystery and in the darkest hour they will return when the true masters call.

Gigante
Giant

Nowadays they are seen as legends, except by the catatais, that suffered because of the Terrible Aipim. The origins of the Colossus is mysterious, but, in the records of all kingdoms and old tribles, it is registered that the Giants walked through their lands at least once. The Confidants of Nature claim that they belong to three kingdoms (animal, vegetal and mineral). The Salt Monks, scholars and Giant’s devotees, sometimes are seen as fanatics, and they know the most about these huge creatures. However, information about them is scarce, since they became recluse in a monastery in the Salt Archipelagus. According to the old parchments and the literature from the catatau ethnicity, the Giant that destroyed Smallid was described as “Tall and strong, with muscular legs and shoulders, and looked like living rocks. Yellow eyes as sparkling topaz, full of hatred. And their lower canine teeth looked like boar tusks. With messy black hair, brown skin, always covered in dirt, their bodies sprouted barbs, similar to roots, attached to their bodies.

Era of Bonanza

The Age of Bonanza, or Third Age of Firmamundo, considered a period of peace, after the Giants defeated the Haza Harins. This is the period where the greatest variety of creatures begins to appear on the continents, shortly after the end of the Age of Giants.

Miaulesco
Meowlescus

Animals sized like ocelots, can have different colors, like white, black, yellowish, brown or striped. It’s possible to domesticate them, but they are unpredictable. They have long claws to use as self-defense. Mostly, they behave like typical felines. Their main feature is a mysterious stone between their eyes. According to Draavarths (scholars of art, medicine and magic), Meowlescus are sensitive animals that can predict events, mainly, those related to magic, due to the mystical stone embedded in their heads. Academics allege that this stone is an extension of the pineal gland, that is why they can sense magical phenomenons.

Gacatos
Cacats

Extremely rare, these animals with arboreal habits, jump around the trees in the Mysterious Forest. Similar to monkeys, their haircoat are mixed with orange, black, white or brindle. Their eyes are greenish and have vertical pupils, a typical characteristic of nocturnal animals. Their ears are slightly pointy, like monkeys, and noses reminded of a cat. They are bipedal creatures, have tiny hands and opposable thumbs with retractile claws. Their feet are elongated, so they can stand on tree branches, and have a strong and long tail that help them maintain their balance while they jump. Legend has it that they can see everybody’s true essence and only reach out to those with pure hearts. They have a strong personality, and they can’t highly regard those who they consider less intelligent.

Libélulas
Dragonflies

“The giant dragonflies of Firmamundo are the raw manifestation of the freedom of those who rule the skies”. This is a quote by Eumano Lokum, one of the firsts monarchs of Catatania, reflects on what are these formidable animals to the kingdom of catatais. Covered and protected by thick plaques of chitin of different colors, with long wings, sensitive antennas that are always aware of what’s happening in the world, spicules in the last pair of legs and powerful jaws that can crush medium sized animals. These dragonflies can fly wonderfully, but are unpredictable, and that’s why they were considered such predators. The catatais that traveled to the sanctuary and managed to domesticate them were happy and successful, afterall, they were the only armed force that ruled the skies of Dawn.

Faganhotos
Hoppergrass

Insectoides creatures, majestic predators, their bodies were half grasshopper and half shrimp, had an aggressive temperament and withdrawn behavior. With six pairs of legs, the front ones were shaped like pincers. They can swim and jump magnificently thanks to their last pair of muscular paws colored orange and green. They were domesticated by the pandareques, after a union of clans made by Albino Large Back.
They live in lakes and swamps in the north of Petrec; they are so important to this kingdom that they are in their flag.

Couraça Vermelha
Red Armors

The lords of Angry Sargassum River, Furious Giant and all the swamps around. They are a crocodilian race, their bodies were covered and protected by a thick leather and corneal calcification, all in a bright red. They had a crest, similar to a fin on their back. They can live alone or in small groups. With sharp teeth and strong jaws they could break tree logs that floated around. Usually they can be found in river beaches or hidden in the sargassum islands. Their diet consists of fish and javalis, and maybe a distracted goat that stops to drink water in the river.
They are much appreciated by the Red Tribes that use their leather, flesh, bones and even teeth in their culture.

Musaranhos de Juba
Maned Shrews

These creatures live in packs in the Mysterious Forest, different from the shrews from the reader’s world (smallest mammal in the world). The ones who walk around in Firmamundo have an awkward mane, and are the size of a rabbit. Alone, they are fearful, but in large packs, they can make anyone run. They have brown skin and a thin nose. Generally are found in glades with the nests under rotten trees.
Some people like their meat.

Gran Mourisco
Gran Moorish Cat

The biggest cat of the Dawn continent lives in the Mysterious Forest, in the Arid and in the Lonely Lands. They are as big as jaguars, they are agile, with fierce fangs and lacerant claws. The animals who live in the forest have a blueish haircoat, but in the Arids, they have a sand-like color, so they can camouflage. And the ones who inhabit the Lonely Lands are white like the icy mountains. Just before the Giant Aipim came along, their skin was traded as a luxury product, and the poor feline was almost extinct; nowadays, they are extremely rare. They are lonely animals, seldom seen in groups, with only the fathers, mothers and their two curbs. The Gran Moorish Cat became a synonym of braveness, ferocity, and an adjective to praise great warriors.

Falcão Índigo
Indigo Falcon

One of the noblest birds that reign in the skies of Firmamundo, their image always reminds us of freedom and strength. Such birds of prey have indigo feathers and eyes that can be gold or emerald green. With curved claws, they are expert hunters and fishers, the size of a Carcara. They are very important to the Red Tribes, they always name their main leader as Hawk, reminding the spirit of freedom and leadership.

Bodes-Touro-firmamundo
Bull Goats

Larger than a regular goat, but smaller than a bull, this race of animals is well known in the Dusk. They are used to pull wagons and plows, they are better than bulls and horses in narrow roads. They have thick legs, horns, their colors are black, brown, white, gray or caramel. Their meat is well liked in many parts, in the region of Solene, for instance, there is a famous dish known as leg of Bull Goat.

Bicos-Duro-firmamundo
Hard Peak

Endemic species of Gema, the smallest island of the Salt Archipelagus. Big birds (as big as toucans), wild, aggressive, with hard peaks and dark blue feathers, with dark yellow stripes and turquoise eyes.
Rumor has it that their peaks are as hard as steel. Such creatures feed on oysters, seafood, dry grains and coconuts.
However, many times, because of scarcity of food, they end up attacking fishing boats on the island.

Ipserana Negra
Black Ipserana

Also known in some places as Serpent of Courage. A snake as big as a rattlesnake, has spiky scales black as coal all over their bodies and a yellow belly, just like their eyes. The most important feature is their curious poison that acts on the nervous system of the prey. Once the victim is bitten, it becomes courageous enough to attack its predator, which makes it easier, since the snake doesn’t spend much energy hunting their food. This was observed by the Monks of Charco and naturalists, and made them name Ipserana as Serpent of Courage, because they encourage their prey to pursue their fatal fate.
This poison is in the making of the Angry Wolf Wine, a bombastic mix, banished in many kingdoms and had a very important role in the war of “Wine and Thorn”.

Creatures Shaped by Magic

chinchila-azul-firmamundo
Ninja Chinchillas

Legend has it that one of the sons of the end of Giants Era and in the beginning of Bonanza Era wished to gift his father, the Firmamundo, with beings that could guide the races that came to the world. After watching a contest between two small creatures that fought over an enormous Sequoia, he shared the tree, separating them. One group became the guardians of Dawn and the other of Dusk. At Dawn, these creatures grew until they were big as humans, and developed a sharp mind thanks to the magic made by the Son, that’s how the Ninjas Chinchilas emerged at Dawn. Generally, these animals are smarter than others and act secretly, taking care and maintaining balance in the Dawn kingdoms. Only few men are honored enough to be trained by them, becoming the Honorable Chinchillas. Some are in a higher rank and guided by Master Manga, but the location of his house, the Half Tree, remains a mystery.

Esquilos Guerreiros
Warrior Squirrels

Just like the chinchillas, the Warrior Squirrels were chosen to be guardians of Dusk.
They are rivals to the chichilas, and inherited the other half of the Sequoia. More quarrelsome than the ones in Dawn, the squirrels were exterminated at Dusk, mostly, because of their skin. Their skills are similar to the chinchillas, man sized, and increased their intellect and cognitive capacity; however, because they were almost extinct, they could not uphold the dusky kingdoms, at most, by being subtly supportive around the Brown Woodland.

Tederlins
Terdelins

They are small beings with blue skin coats that live at Dusk. These creatures have big orange eyes, ears pointed outwards, hairy and toothless, their height reaching the knees of an adult man. Usually their gift to magic involves water manipulation, and the travelers who bump into them always end up soaked. Some naturalists believe that these beings are direct descendants of the Beasts of Ice that managed to adapt in the warmer weather of Dusk, so they can only manipulate the water when it’s in its liquid state.

Toupeira Azul
Blue Mole

This creature is very frequent in lullabies of disobedient children. According to tales of Leandro the Naive, the first Confidant of Nature, the Blue Mole is an offspring of the magic that created the Chinchillas and the Squirrels, but when and why this happened remains a mystery. It’s a creature that crawls with thick and strong claws, has a voluminous blue and gray haircoat and star shaped tentacles that sprout from its face. It’s been a long time since they were last seen, which aggravates the belief that they are just a legend in the lands of Dusk.

garra podre
Rotten Claws

Little do we know about where these creatures came from, and actually, they haven’t been seen recently since the Bonanza Era. What has been told in the old records of the Red Tribes is that they looked like frogs, half salamander on two legs, with big green eyes, a bit out of proportion to their heads, a brownish beige skins (some could have brown or green spots), and curved sharp and dirty claws.
They walk in large groups, and are very aggressive. Such creatures can be as tall as a warrior’s waist.

Gorgrai Alado
Winged Gorgrai

These animals are on the brink of extinction, they live on the southern islands of the Salt Archipelagus.
These creatures look like grown iguanas, but their scales are shiny and purple, they have a crest of feathers from their heads to their backs. They are the size of a small donkey, sometimes even of an adult horse. They are carnivores, with strong muscles and claws, and can fly, but some of them die when they try to go too far, mostly in the ThunderStorm Era.
